I'm Not Superman

In the autumn of 2012, I went for a semester abroad from my home university to the University of Nottingham on the Erasmus Student Mobility Programme. On my experience at a foreign university I learnt a lot of non-academic material, but stuff that helped me discover myself better than ever before.

One evening I was in my apartment, kinda bored but did not feel like going out ... and in the depths of YouTube I found several vlogs which inspired to start my own. However, I never managed  to actually sit myself down and do it until recently. My experience abroad also made me aware of several flaws in my character ... and realized that I was not the "Superman" I used to think I was. During all of this I remembered another comedy television show that I used to watch a couple of years back ... Scrubs. I really loved it back then. It showed the life of a young doctor, John "JD" Dorian, who during his eight years at Sacred Heart Hospital realized not he knew nothing and had to learn nearly everything from hard experiences.

I always sympathized with JD, and I connected with the character on a particular level. The theme song for the show was Lazlo Bane's "Superman", from their album All the Time in the World released in  2000). Everytime I heard it, this song kept remembering me that all of us, like JD, are not super-men and women but have our flaws and defects. And I like to keep reminding that to myself ... because it motivates me to try and overcome these character flaws.

And while writing my blog, I remember in the experiences I had while abroad, and the lessons I had to learn the hard way like JD used to, always want to keep in mind this one thought ... that as Lazlo Bane try to say in their song ...  I'm not Superman !
